About ‘blogs.guildford’
The blogging service at Guildford College is intended to promote communication, debate, and the dissemination of knowledge. Blogs provide an excellent means of accomplishing this. They allow an intuitive and straightforward means of publishing information on behalf of departments, facilities and groups within the Guildford College environment. They also facilitate discussion through the ability to leave comments and pose questions.
The ‘blogs.guildford’ service is primary intended for staff and departments. It is available to those wishing to pursue teaching and learning related goals as well, or seeking to enhance the public image of the College.
Features
The blogging service allows departments to:
- Integrate a day-to-day blogging service into their section of the main web site, highlighting activities of the department. This is intended to complement the existing Content Management System (CMS).
- Promote integration with the College’s social networking tools (Facebook, Twitter).
- Encourage greater use of web-based resources and collaboration within departments.
For support and teaching staff the blogging service:
- Provides a means of promoting your individual work.
- Allows you to create a blog for your own particular course.
- Provides a means of disseminating information .
- Lets you choose an individual design for your blog.
- Opens comments to the College community, or to the wider public if you prefer.
Other features available to you include:
- The ability to post to your blog via an iphone application
- The ability to conduct polls
- Pushing comments and blog posts to a facebook page
- Moderate comments made on your blog posts, or approve comments.
- Filter spam or offensive language
The initial blogging service will pilot with a small group of users in the Virtual Learning Environment and the College at large. General availability will be available in early May, 2010.
Staff with a valid Guildford College network account are the intended beneficiaries of the service. Students wishing to blog will require the permission of their teacher. Other affiliated groups including alumni, affiliated groups, or partners will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
