Finding your Way around GO!

If there is a common refrain at Guildford College, I would have to say its “how do I find that in GO?” That leads to a problem the Web Services team is faced with – how do we present information in GO! in a way that makes sense?
Which leads us to an easy enough question – what audiences are we catering to?
As part of rationalising the layout of the Current GO! Structure, which you can download as an Adobe PDF, we’ve broken down our audience into a few groups.
- Non-teaching staff: Those looking for documents, forms, and other resources necessary for the performance of day-to-day duties – users retrieving or submitting information
- Teaching-staff: Staff who use the GO! teaching environment to interact with students – posting teaching materials, and interacting with students.
- Students: Logging in mainly to access materials as required for courses, or services offered by various departments (the LRC, student services, etc) – interacting with the learning environment and using basic services
So we have groups of students and staff on three campuses using GO! but for vastly different reasons. Some use it as a static document repository. others use it as a interactive teaching and learning resource. So how do we make it sensible?
