Hi Jason,

Thanks for your feedback, and apologies if I implied you were less than enthusiastic - my blogging is a bit tongue in cheek, hence the liberal use of "smilies". I also "brain dump" a little - I tend to type as I think, which can be hazardous when blogging.

I found your presentation and experience quite useful and highly informative. A lot of lessons for us there, and a very slick implementation.

btw - I completely forgot to ask you if I could make a clip, so I have consigned it to the bin - I'd hate to make people wary about informal conversations after all. Its nice to talk shop in a relaxed environment.

Very nice to meet you too Jason, hope we can chat more about your ILP implementation as we develop ours - I think we'd have a lot to learn from you.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for coming along yesterday. Apologies if I didn’t sound enthusiastic enough but I wasn’t really there to give to a pitch and didn’t know you were filming it otherwise I would have stood up and prepared a PowerPoint! The idea was really just to show you how the system developed in NI without being tied to moodle and why they decided that it should work the way it does.

With regards the interactivity with MIS the colleges haven’t done this lightly and it is read-only access to information that is already available in a typical tutorial document. This information stays within a college and it doesn’t dtc off to a third party host. You also shouldn’t have to alter the system very much to move it to a different MIS system such eclipse as it uses ILR information which you should find in all CIS / MIS systems.
Though I'm disappointed you didn’t ask me about this when we spoke or during the Q&A rather than blogging about it.
Regardless it was honestly nice to meet you, hear how guildford college is forging ahead and to catch up on stories about home.

Good luck for future

Kind regards

Hi Brian
Thanks for the detailed information. What I am now interested in is the whether we should be using the Moodle eILP and what benefit it would have. How quickly is this something we can roll out in the college? How much, or little of it would we want to use? Are you able to set upa a demo of the eILP on your return??
Thanks

Hi Leigh,

We've amended the article with the recorded feeds. It may not be available just yet, but it will be in no more than 10 minutes we'd think. You'll find them above.

There's a good reason we've not told anyone where it is yet - now you know why. :-)

Funny enough, I don't mind those things - usually just minor settings on the web server, config settings to tweak (for instance no students can log on just yet) and whole bunch of little things.

We've got a command-line transfer tool that does the job pretty well - I've been using that to transfer courses in bulk.

But the next job is to finish triple-checking that user enrollments are happening each night (so far so good), sort out automatic course enrollments, then move all the old content over using the administrator migration tool. Then you'll be able to copy course content from your old course (which will remain intact in GO) into your new course for the current academic year. The idea is to preserve past courses in a read-only state. Seems a waste that courses cease to exist each year when roll-over occurs.

Stay tuned, it'll take shape very quickly...
